A very personal (video) story about being held, handing it over, and finding angels in unexpected places. Plus: how to do a self-breast exam, and don't forget to schedule that mammogram :)
Thank you for this! Been following along with your beautiful words for a few months now. Heading in for my first post diagnosis scans next month and feeling all the feelings. Thanks for leading ❤️
Oh I'm holding your hand, sitting there in my robe with my plastic bag! All the feelings. I hope you do something nice for yourself :) Thank you for following along, you are not alone.
Such a beautiful presentation of your experience, Alexa. Finding grace in moments of fear and unsettling thoughts is a wonderful reminder that we are all strong, yet fragile and leaning on each other is often exactly what we need to get through. Thank you for sharing.
Sweet Alexa, I found you today through our beloved Suleika and just watched this video. It was meant to be for me. I'm going in for a biopsy of my left breast tomorrow which the ultrasound radiologist said had a 95% likelyhood of being cancer, so I'm trying my best to not feel frightened and anxious but I do have my moments. Your beautiful video spoke to me so deeply and made me feel less alone. Thank you so much. AND I am delighted to now be subscribed for your columns and am looking forward to more of your singular wisdom and insight. Sending love and appreciation.
I’m so glad you found me, Maggie, and extra special through Suleika who I adore! You are not alone ❤️ thank you so much for this sweet message! I’ll be thinking of you!
Thank you for this lovely story. Making oneself vulnerable to a kind stranger sometimes has remarkable results. Today I went to a group session on managing anxiety for individuals touched by cancer (my 6 year old grandson has a recurrence of stage 4 cancer). My tears flowed freely when it was my turn to tell why I was there. It felt strange to cry in front of strangers yet the support and kindness I received made it feel like the most natural thing in the world. Vulnerability is perhaps becoming my super power.
